Safety and infrastructure
Safety in Peru is improving. Pickpockets are the biggest problem, especially in crowded areas, on public transport, in bus and train stations, and in the centre of Lima at night. It is adviced only to take taxis that have been pre-booked by a hotel or official company. The medical care is generally good in Lima and adequate in other major cities. Outside the major cities facilities are very limited. Peru’s infrastructure has developed drastically in the recent years. Railways have connection with a limited areas in the country. Bus and road service is the main public transportation system. A large number of urban and inter provincial bus companies go almost everywhere, except for certain cities in the Amazon.
