India extends from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean coast, including half a dozen climatic regions. However, generally the country has a tropical climate, dominated by monsoons, heat and humidity.

The coolest weather lasts from around December to February. The hottest time is between March and June, when it is dry, dusty and unpleasant. The average temperature in India is + 25°C. The highest monthly average high temperature is + 41°C in May while the lowest is + 7°C in January. Monsoon rains occur in most regions in summer between June and early October. The best time to travel to the south of India is between January and September and to the north-eastern regions between March and August. The best time to travel to the mountains is in the summer, between May and September.
