Safety and infrastructure

Chile is a politically stable country with very few threats to the traveler. Chile is certainly one of the safest countries in Latin-American. Santiago and most Chilean cities are fairly safe. As in any city worldwide, there are some neighborhoods along the outskirts that are a little more dangerous and should be avoided at night. Travelers should take care of their belongings, especially around tourist areas and bus stations.

Healthcare in urban areas is adequate, but hospitals and clinics are extremely expensive and usually require payment in cash. Health insurance is strongly recommended.

Chile boasts a great road infrastructure, with modern highways in Santiago, which extend towards the north and south of the country. Santiago International Airport is one of the most modern and proven airports in South America. Traveling in Chile is comfortable, easy and safe, and the transportation networks, both air and land, are efficient and well developed.
