CARNAVAL

Every year in February or early March Rio de Janeiro is transformed into the city of samba and Carnival. It is time when all of Brazil stops for five days to dance and party. The parade of samba schools is the highlight, rich festival ornamented with beautiful costumes. It is the time of joy, colours, music and rhythm.

FOOTBALL

The most popular sport in Brazil is Football. The greatest football players have been brazilian and the largest stadium is in Rio.

CUISINE

The Brazilian cuisine is very rich, influenced by native Indian, Portuguese and African tastes. The countrywide typical Brazilian dish is the feijoada - served in big casseroles of black beans cooked with a selection of meats and sausages. It is garnished with toasted manioc flour, rice, kale and sliced orange. Another preference and very famous is barbecue carrousel, where several types of grilled meats are brought to a table and carved to the customer’s choice. In the Northeast, the Bahia region has heavy African influence where menus usually include seafood, shellfish, and tropical fruits. In the North, region Amazinas, meals consist of local fish, root vegetables such as yams and peanuts, and tropical fruits. This cuisine is heavily Indian influenced, and a very popular dish is the Caruru do Par, a meal of dried shrimp, onion, okra, cilantro, tomato and dendl oil. The national drink is the famous Caipirinha, which is made with cachaça, a distilled sugar cane liquor, mixed with lemon, sugar and ice.
