Shopping is a great pleasure in Brazil and there are plenty of possibilities, from boutiques to hippie markets; from precious stones, to creative handcrafts. Brazil is a great producer of gold and diamonds and the prices are very inviting. Leather articles are also good shopping option as the quality is high and the price inviting. There is a high offer of nice paintings mainly in the bigger cities.
Typical shopping hours are 10.00 - 19.00 Monday to Saturday and major shopping centers are also open on Sundays. The local currency is the Real. Currencies like Euros, American dollars and traveler’s cheques can easily be changed in all banks, authorized hotels and official "cambios". International credit cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants.
